t was build on the 2nd A.D. century by the Roman emperor Marcus Ulpius Trajanus and comprised the most important center of social and ecclesiastic life from the 4th until the 13th A.D. century. The foundations of a church, an ottoman building (or Hana)and 4 baths are saved nowadays.

Other findings by Traianoupolis have been transferred to the Archaeological Museum of Komotini while at the interior of "Hana" a small Archaeological Collection is kept, mostly of architectural parts.
t is said that the town was built here because of its warm baths. These baths still function today and are visited by many tourists, as the water of the fountain can heal diseases of the reins, the liver, the bile etc.
