t the area of Alexandroupolis there is a very important wall painted cave, the one of Agioi Theodoroi, which brings in mind the cavernous churches of Cappadokia or the isolated stone paintings of the Prespes. The surrounding area includes various stone roofs and caves, in which monks probably lived and used Agioi Theodoroi as a church.

The cave has been reformed in a small temple with the addition of a built temple and the wall painting of the surfaces of the rock. The images were created in two phases (11th/end of 12th-early 13th century) and reflect the high art of Constantinople.
