t the Pythio village, Empythio of the Byzantines, emperor John Katakouzinos built an extremely forceful fortress (early 14th century) which was used as his personal refugee and treasure-house. The castle, an impressive negotiation of western military architecture, saves even today two out of its three towers along with a section of the haunter.
